Dutch still lifes are mostly named according to their subject matter. Grapes, vine leaves, lemon, and apricots are brought together for this 'fruytjes' or fruit piece. The subdued colour range, reflecting the Haarlem tradition of the 'monochromatic' still life, is relieved by the bold orange and yellow coloured fruit.
