Van Beyeren was one of the foremost Dutch still life painters of the 17th century, famed for his 'banketjes' or Banquet pieces. Considered the finest of his works in Scotland, this painting depicts a lavish arrangement of expensive foodstuffs displayed alongside silver, glass and porcelain serving pieces. Look for his self portrait reflected in the wine jug.
