Two whaling ships anchored to an ice floe
Lantern slide made of glass with metal frame

Donated by Mr Robert Ferguson in 1973
Museum number 1975-2-4-8

This lantern slide shows two Dundee whaling ships anchored to an ice floe. Both ships are three masteed, with the funnels forward of the mizzen mast. Both ships are wearing the Union flag on their mizzen and are barque rigged - the mizzen mast is rigged for fore-and-aft sails rather than square sails. The nearest vessel has the name 'Nova Zembla' on her bow and there are a number of men visible on her bowsprit. There is a finger of land in the left background.
