Upper jaws of whale with baleen hanging down
Lantern slide made of glass with metal frame

Donated by Mr Albert A. Fuller, 1996
Museum number 1997-27-41

This lantern slide shows the upper jaws of a whale lowered onto the deck of a whaling ship. The amount of baleen, or whalebone, can clearly be seen. There are also two whaling crewmen in the picture, and their size compared to that of the jawbone indicates the scale of the whale.
