View of a coastal settlement from a ship
Lantern slide of glass with metal frame

This photograph was probably taken from the deck of a whaling ship. It is the view of a European settlement in the Arctic. The houses are set along the coast and look white in the distance. Behind the settlement the ground rises to a low, but pointed hill. There is a vessel in the water between the photographer and the land.
