Whale alongside a whaling ship
Photograph made of paper

Donated by Miss T. Thompson, 1972
Museum number 1972-361-2

This photograph was taken from the deck of a whaling ship, looking down the outside of the hull. It shows the body of a whale in the water alongside, possibly waiting to be flensed. The tail of the whale is at the top of the photograph, with the head either suspended or being winched upward by a block and tackle.
