This black and white photograph shows a whale being flensed alongside a whaling ship. The photograph gives a clear view of the ship's hull as well as the whale alongside with two whaleboats. There are eight men working with the whale, and the equipment in the closest whaleboat can be seen lying inside. The boat is square sterned, unlike the normal pattern on having a double-prowed whaleboat.
