Whale tied up alongside 'Eclipse' prior to flensing
Lantern slide made of glass

Museum number 1972-351-49

This lantern slide shows a whale tied up alongside the Dundee whaling ship 'Eclipse' prior to it being flensed. The photograph was probably taken from the deck of the ship or from an overhanging yard or spar, for it is looking down on the scene. There is a whaleboat at the bottom third of the picture, with the dead whale above that, fastened by lines to the ship.
