Whaleboats at sea, around 1900
Photograph made of paper

Donated by Mr James Matheson in 1968
Museum number 1968-40-9

This picture is a long distance shot of three whaleboats on a calm sea. The photograph could have been taken from the deck of a whaling ship, which two of the boats are approaching. The third, to the right, is broadside on with a man in the stern operating a steering oar, while a signal flag flies amidships.
