Whaling ship at anchor, possibly at Bressay Sound
Lantern slide made of glass

Museum number 1972-351-59

This lantern slide shows a whaling ship in an inlet of the sea, with smaller vessels around her. The ship is barque rigged, with all her sails furled. In the left foreground there is a single-masted fishing boat with a Lerwick registration, and some of the small open boats have the distinctive Norse lines that were also common to Shetland.
