Whaling ship in the Firth of Tay
Lantern slide made of glass

Donated by Mr Robert Ferguson
Museum number 1975-2-4-10

This lantern slide shows a Dundee whaling ship in the Firth of Tay. She has her sails furled but there is smoke coming from her funnel. The vessel is wearing the Blue Peter on her foremast. The Blue Peter is the flag vessels wear to inform any crew on land that they are about to sail and to order them on board. There is a small boat immediately astern and another to port, possibly bringing members of the crew to the ship.
