A major Edo festival of spring is Hatsu-uma, which is held on the first day of Uma (the horse in the Chinese zodiac) in February every year. It is the custom, on that day, to worship Inari all over Japan. Seen here are two women in conversation, one seated in a palanquin, in front of the entrance of the Inari Shrine in Oji, Edo.
