The People’s Story (2017/18)

The People’s Story was an ambitious year-long Learning and Engagement Programme celebrating the 150th Anniversary of The McManus: Dundee’s Art Gallery & Museum. The programme was delivered through a series of creative collaborations with learning partners, cultural agencies, community groups and networks across the city.

As The McManus: Dundee’s Art Gallery & Museum is ‘The People’s’ museum, during our 150 Anniversary Year, our visitors and participants shared stories of their own journeys, memories and experiences as they explored the museum with us as part of this ambitious programme.

The People’s Story Programme allowed us to explore questions such as:

  • What makes a Museum?
  • What is its purpose and why/how does it engage with audiences?
  • What is the impact and wider impact of the museum collection?
  • How can collections be used to encourage and support audiences to meet, share and explore ideas?
