Following a sold out event at Broughty Castle Museum, Leisure & Culture Dundee has announced there will be a second evening celebrating the bicentenary of James Guthrie Orchar, one of Dundee’s renowned cultural patrons and art collectors at The McManus on Thursday 16 October, 2025.

The event will take place in the Victoria Gallery at The McManus: Dundee’s Art Gallery & Museum, surrounded by masterpieces from Orchar’s original collection. Guests will enjoy a curator-led talk on Orchar’s life, his importance as a cultural patron and the legacy of his art collection alongside a surprise unveiling to conclude the evening.

Anna Day, Head of Libraries and Cultural Services said

“We were delighted by the response to our sold out event at Broughty Castle Museum and are now looking forward to welcoming guests to The McManus for another special evening.

"This event offers a rare opportunity to explore James Guthrie Orchar’s enduring influence on Dundee’s cultural landscape, right in the heart of his original collection."

"These bicentenary celebrations not only honour his remarkable contribution to the city’s cultural heritage, but also help support the ongoing care of Dundee’s nationally significant fine art collection.”
