Object of the Month - December 2019 - Willielma Campbell, Lady Glenorchy by Katherine Read

Artist Katherine Read was born into a merchant family and was the first Scottish woman to pursue professional training as an artist. Lady Glenorchy was widowed in her thirties and used her vast wealth to support religious education and establish independent churches across Scotland and England.

Museum registrar Lili Bartholomew talks about the painting which is on loan from a private collection, and which inspired a display celebrating female artists. The display, A Woman's Perspective, is available to view in the McManus until 2 February 2020.
