Dundee Nights

Dundee Nights invites you to step into the city after dark and explore how generations of Dundonians have come together to socialise, celebrate, and be entertained. The McManus: Dundee’s Art Gallery & Museum, will explore the evolution of a night out in Dundee, revealing how leisure, music, and community have shaped the city’s cultural identity.

Journey through the lively energy of 19th-century music halls to the glamour of Dundee’s golden cinema era, the exhibition reveals how entertainment and community have shaped the city’s cultural identity. Step into the world of variety performers, picture houses, and dance halls, where live music and social dancing created unforgettable nights and lasting connections.

At the heart of the exhibition is Caird Hall, Dundee’s iconic performance venue, which welcomed internationally renowned artists while championing local talent. The story continues in the city’s beloved pubs, long at the centre of Dundee’s social life, where conversation, music, and camaraderie have defined nights out for generations.

Through photographs, memorabilia, and personal stories, Dundee Nights brings the atmosphere of Dundee’s evening culture to life. Blending immersive storytelling with social history, the exhibition invites visitors to reflect on their own memories and experiences, celebrating nightlife as an essential and ever-evolving part of the city’s identity.
