The McManus: Dundee's Art Gallery & Museum is inviting people across Dundee to share their  objects from nights out in the city, as part of a major new exhibition opening later this year.

Dundee Nights, running from 5 December 2026 to 5 September 2027, will celebrate the city after dark, exploring how generations of Dundonians have come together to socialise, celebrate and be entertained.

The exhibition will tell the story of Dundee nightlife from the days of music halls through to modern times, covering cinema, dance halls, the heyday of Caird Hall and more.

To help bring these stories to life, the team at The McManus is looking for objects linked to nights out in the city. Contributions could include ticket stubs and programmes, photographs and memorabilia, a drumstick or plectrum, band t‑shirts, keepsakes from gigs or venues and unusual or personal items with a story to tell.

Gareth Jackson Hunt, Museum Services Manager at Leisure and Culture Dundee, said:

“Dundee has a strong tradition of nightlife and entertainment and this exhibition is about celebrating that shared experience.
We’re keen to hear from people across the city and see the objects they have kept, whether that’s something large, small or unexpected. These items help us tell the story of Dundee in a way that feels authentic and rooted in personal experience.”

At the heart of the exhibition will be Caird Hall, alongside the cinemas, pubs, social clubs and dance halls that have played an important role in the city’s social life.

Through photographs, memorabilia and personal stories, Dundee Nights will explore how entertainment and community have shaped Dundee’s cultural identity, inviting visitors to reflect on their own experiences of nights out in the city.

The submission form will be open for four weeks from 12th June to 10th July 2026. The team will review all submissions and will be in touch with contributors. While not all items can be included, the aim is to represent a wide range of voices from across Dundee.
